The Strawbale Bothy

A small holiday let, built by my son and myself from all natural materials and we welcome guests all year round. The Strawbale Bothy is exactly what it says, it is a loadbearing strawbale building built on foundations made from car tyres filled with rammed gravel.

you will love staying in a natural home

We’re sure you will love the feel of staying in a natural home, the softness of the clay plaster walls, the luminous light of the lime washed shower room and the warmth of local larch wood.

There is a light and airy living area with an electric stove, Bluetooth speaker, books and games to keep you entertained if you ever get bored of the stunning views over to the hills of Knoydart. There is a small kitchen area with induction hob, combination microwave oven, washer dryer and all the other things you would expect to find.

In the bedroom you will find a cosy box bed, dressed with a duck down duvet, soft, relaxed French linen and Egyptian cotton. From your bed you can stare at the stars at night or watch the sunrise in the morning. You also have a spacious en suite shower room with standard flush toilet.

Planet friendly, human friendly

We’ve tried to make sure this wee building has as low an impact on the planet as possible and built from natural, healthy materials. We have not used any concrete in its construction and practically everything can be recycled or is biodegradable.

We intended it to be a plastic-free home, but while Covid-19 still circulates, we have had to introduce more plastic products for ease of disinfection to protect our guests, ourselves and our community.

You can still try plastic free showering with handmade soap and solid shampoo by local Scottish artisans and washing up those dishes with natural bristle brushes and cotton dish cloths.

We Also have fresh flowers

Meadowsweet Croft, a small, artisan cut flower patch on the stunning Isle of Skye. My flowers are grown naturally in my garden and on the croft; we wait for the seasons to turn and for nature to send up those beautiful blooms from the earth.
